Body Contouring

Body contouring is a procedure for altering the shape of the body after major weight loss. A toned and well-proportioned body image is often associated with a healthy diet and exercise. But, despite weight loss or fitness efforts, you cannot always achieve the body image you desire. After weight loss, many areas remain saggy with poor tissue elasticity. Weight changes can affect the face, neck, arms, breasts, abdomen, hips, and thighs. While all areas cannot be corrected at once, often more than one procedure can be combined. Please browse through our procedure pages to learn more about the specific procedures.

Where do I Begin?

A consultation with Dr. Sena is the first step to learn how body contouring can improve the appearance of a physical figure or eliminate sagging skin from weight loss. A consultation is designed to fully educate you in a non-pressured environment, and will include: • A discussion of your primary concerns and an evaluation of your individual case • The options available to correct the appearance of your areas of concern • The likely outcomes of surgery and any risks or potential complications • The course of treatment recommended by Dr. Thomas Sena. Dr. Sena will also answer any specific questions you may have.

What to Expect

The surgical techniques involved in body contouring are most often done in a hospital setting. Procedures are most commonly performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Sena and the assisting staff will fully attend to your comfort and safety.

Following Surgery

Once your procedure is completed, bandages will be applied to your incisions. A small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid. Before being released from the hospital, you and an accompanying family member, friend or caregiver will be given specific instructions that may include:

  •  How to care for the surgical site
  •  Medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the potential risk of infection
  •  Specific concerns to look for at the surgical site or in your general health
  •  When to follow up with Dr. Sena

Results and Outlook from a Body Contouring Procedure

It may take several months for swelling to fully dissipate. It can take a year or more for incision lines to improve, although they will never completely disappear. After the swelling recedes, you should be pleased with the improved body image and achieve your personal goals for an enhanced appearance will likely increase your self-confidence.
