Questions & Answers about ScarCare®
What can be done to improve the appearance of Scars?
There are alternatives, both surgical and non-surgical. For the patients who prefer a non-invasive approach, ScarCare® represents the state of the art. It is an easy-to-use topical formula that does not require a prescription.
How is ScarCare® different from other products on the market?
For decades, doctors have used silicone, cortisone and vitamin E individually for scar treatment to make scars less visibile and more comfortable. But many consumers find these messy and awkward to use. ScarCare® is the only scar treatment product known to combine all three ingredients into a single product that is simply brushed on to form a clear protective film over the scar while it heals. Because it is easy to use and effective, doctors find that ScarCare® produces a high level of patient compliance, and thus, satisfaction.
Will ScarCare® help all kinds of scars?
ScarCare® can be used on both old and new “overgrown” or thick scars (known as hypertrophic scars or keloids) caused by surgery, burns, cuts, scrapes, stitches and other injuries. It will not help stretch marks. It will help acne scars only if they are “overgrown.” It will not help acne scars that are sunken in. Consult your physician to be sure about acne scars. If your scars are flat and soft but are discolored, use Scarguard Lightener instead.
When should I begin using ScarCare®?
With old scars, anytime. With new scars, as soon as your wound has healed, or “skinned over.”
How long will I need to use ScarCare®?
It will vary based on the scar and the individual. Typically, patients use it for 2 to 4 months. Please consult the Drug Facts Panel on the packaging and our website for directions on use.
How often do I need to apply ScarCare®?
Twice a day. ScarCare® is water-resistant, so it won’t wash off during bathing or swimming. It can be peeled off, but it is not necessary to remove an existing layer before applying a new one.
Does ScarCare® have a fragrance?
ScarCare® does have a distinctive smell somewhat like that of nail polish. This is due to the antiseptic component in the formula that allows it to clean the skin before forming the protective film. Within seconds, the smell will completely dissipate.
Can ScarCare® be used on children?
Do not use on children under 2. For use on children from 2 to 12, please consult a physician. Precautions must be taken to avoid getting into eyes or mouth.
Can ScarCare® be used during pregnancy?
Please check with your obstetrician first.
